I once plotted the genetic distance between germans and the various italian population groups. Not surprisingly, there is a North - South gradient there as well. The goal was to see if the genetic distance was gradually or abruptly increasing with geographical distance to Germany. It was a gradual increase.
I plotted the genetic distance of different Italians to Germans. There is no clear North/South divide, it seems, but a gradual increase in genetic distance the longer physical distance they have.
Dark Blue is closest, then light blue. Then Orange. The red are Italian Jews. Not sure where they live
heard through the grapevine that southern italy was smarter at some point until some king decided to move all the important stuff up north. History not my strong point tho.
