These people get a blank check - up to and including assault (look at what happened to Charles Murray, for example), and it never occurs to anybody that it would be perfectly appropriate to arrest people for assault. Or even disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct. These are all criminal actions and we used to treat them as such.
