It happened in Australia pre-Omicron and is also happening for prime-age adults, and is only reversed for the very old, so probably not COVID. Could be vaccine side effects, but seems less prevalent in heavily vaccinated Western Europe, so probably not that either. So what is it?

No idea, I don't spend much time on COVID anymore. I glance at https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps/#z-scores-by-country once in a while, but this only covers Europe, so for overseas Anglos one has to look somewhere else.
