Great article. I used honey for coughs for a long time. But on a website called People’s Pharmacy (run by Joe Graedon, PhD in pharmacology) I learned about another remedy that for me at least works even better. Vick’s Vap-o Rub is an inexpensive cold symptom remedy with natural ingredients that has been around for a very long time. It is often rubbed on the chest. But someone discovered that rubbing it on the soles of the feet (and then putting on socks because the rub is greasy) stops non-productive coughs almost instantly. It seems ridiculous but in my own experience it works amazingly well. Graedon posits that it works through neural channels, but I don’t think it has been tested. Just another word-of-mouth home remedy, like honey.

Try some Mead. Fermented honey should do the trick. Was going to make a “buzz” joke but it would be too easy…
